Greetings from the new Here

It would have been smart to rent a moving truck and move all at once. But hey…I’ve never claimed to be smart. Instead, I’ve chosen to make many, MANY trips back and forth between the old abode and the new one in my Mazda 3. There are many good things about a Mazda 3. The ability to move a household isn’t one of them.

So I’m here. I’m alive. I have a brand-spankin-new high speed internet connection.  I’m slowly getting back on track.

Life is very good.

I moved the first load of stuff into the new apartment last night after work. As I was walking up to the front door, I glanced to the left and noticed a chalk outline of a body on the sidewalk under my bedroom window.

Looking for There

For many reasons, I’m looking for a new place to live.  Just a little apartment.  Some place I could live for maybe a year, maybe 15 years.

So I’ve started the very fun task of viewing apartments.  My gut instinct is to take the first acceptable apartment, which happens to be the first one I viewed.  Nothing fancy.  It’s small, it’s old, it has weird angles.  But for as little as I’m home, the price is right.  Rather than listen to my gut instinct, I have listened to EVERYONE ELSE IN THE FREAKIN WORLD who says, “don’t rush into things…take your time…compare and contrast…blah blah blah.”  So now I’ve officially seen one too many apartments.  Yesterday I saw what was very close to my dream apartment.  Interesting details, built in book cases, etc.  I can see myself in this light, airy, plant-filled beauty.  All said and done, though, it’s approx $100 – $150 more per month than the smaller, plainer, (and just a little dirtier) apartment.  Now I’m torn.  Is the extra coolness worth the money?  What will win out – frugality or fancy?

Glad I’m Here

Sunday Morning.

I’m sitting here at the computer, beside an east-facing window.  It’s a little chilly in here this morning, but the sun is bright and warm, and quite frankly, I’m basking in it.  I can look out my window and see the sunflowers and morning glories and vinca vine.  Every once in a while, a horse drawn buggy clomps by.
I have a load of laundry in the washing machine – this one last load and everything I own except the pajamas on my back will be clean.  The house smells like Tide and Downy.

The scents of Tide and Downy are mingling nicely with the scent of my coffee.  It’s just plain old instant coffee, but it’s hot and yummy.  It’s in a mug that belongs to the VIM, and I like to see it sitting by my computer monitor.  It just looks right.

Lately, it’s not often that I have time to sit and relax.  To bask in the sun and leisurely drink a cup of coffee.  Usually I throw the laundry in and rip it back out and fold it as quickly as possible – just another time-wasting chore.  Today though, I am making a point to take it easy and be quiet for just a few hours.  It’s hard to turn my brain off – to not think about all the stuff I NEED to do.  But I’m doing it.  I’m so relieved that I haven’t lost the ability to appreciate.

I need to do this more often.

Orange Sky

I was walking along minding my business,
When love came and hit me in the eye,
Flash! Bam! Alacazam!
Out of the orange colored sky.

I can’t believe the way I go out in public

The VIM and I took advantage of the exactly 5 hours in the last 2 weeks when the weather wasn’t 427 degrees with 105% humidity and went for a bike ride.

We biked 17 miles, ate lunch, then biked back.

The trail was a little wet and muddy due to a short morning rain, and I discovered when I got undressed for a much-needed shower after we got home that the mud had kicked up on the back of my shorts in a pattern that looked very much like I had pooped my pants. That would have been good information for the VIM to share with me before he sent me into the grocery store on the drive back to pick up steaks for dinner.

Thank goodness he didn’t ask me to grab some toilet paper, too.
