if I go get coffee today at work and there are only 4 drops left in the pot AGAIN, I am SERIOUSLY going to rain down a hellfire of fury on my co-workers.

What’s Happening to Me??!!?!?!?!?!??

I have a confession to make. I have done a bad thing.

I was supposed to be at the VIM’s house yesterday at 5pm. I was about 10 minutes late. I told him I was late because I was cleaning and doing bills and I lost track of time.

The truth is that I was so engrossed in “Project Runway” reruns that I lost track of time.

I had to lie to the VIM because he just wouldn’t understand. How could he, when I SURE AS HELL DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED MYSELF?

Appliance Mutiny

I still haven’t bought a new coffee pot. I have resorted to instant coffee while I haunt the appliance aisles, letting the coffee pots court me. Do I want a down-to-earth model – one that will simply brew coffee and do it without the unneeded flashiness? Or do I want a coffee pot with flair- one that can brew coffee AND tea and do it hot OR iced and comes with a built in grinder?

Decisions decisions.

And now my scale stopped working this week.

Are there any recruiters out there? Any hiring managers? Anyone looking for an employee? Let me introduce you to my coworker. Actually, I’m not sure WHICH coworker it is, but s/he is a steal, for sure!

So incredibly attached to his work, this employee won’t waste company time turning around in the bathroom to see if they have peed on the seat. Heck, sometimes they won’t even flush! Do you know how many TPS coversheets could be completed in the time it takes to flush the toilet? And replacing an empty toilet paper roll or paper towels? Forgetaboutit. This employee is already back in their office chair and working in the time it would take to get the paper off the roll.

And in the kitchen, this employee is looking out for your bottom line. When they fill their coffee cup, they won’t waste company resources by tossing the LAST FOUR DROPS in the pot and start a fresh pot. No no no. What if, for some unknown reason, the other 50 coffee drinkers in the office decided they didn’t want any more coffee after 8:30AM? A fresh pot would be WASTEFUL! They also save resources by only using half of a coffee creamer and leaving the other half on the counter for someone else to use. BRILLIANT!

Come on, employers. Surely you can see what I fine employee this is. I’ll even pay for his shipping and handling to his new job.

NO RETURNS!

Horrors!

My coffee pot is not working.
The only hot beverage I have is Sleepytime Tea.

This is a problem.

  • I have been woken up two nights in a row by some serious pain in my foot. Or more precisely, excruciating pain between two of my toes. I’d like to say it’s a stress injury from exercising, but ha ha ha I would have had to exercised for THAT to happen.
  • The VIM has been out of town for several days. I spent the extra time alone making lists of all the things I should do while he’s out of town. I ended up doing not much of anything. I’m ok with that.
  • For some reason, every time I hit the apostrophe key, it activates the “find” function on my browser, and if I keep typing, it moves my cursor all around the screen. So from this point forward I will not be using any contractions in this post.
  • Coffee: nectar of the Early Morning Gods
  • I can think of few things I would rather not have done than laser eye surgery. If I ever need to have it done, I hope they will have a giant bottle of pre-op valium available.
  • One of my absolute biggest guilty pleasures is watching the movie “The Cutting Edge.” I will drop everything and watch it every time it is on tv. Saturday I had to make the tough decision of whether to watch Project Runway or The Cutting Edge. This is what my life devolves into when the VIM is not home.
  • At least for this weekend, I live in the sweet spot of the eastern US: Too far northwest to get much snow from the noreaster, too far southeast to get much from lake effect snow. We got just enough snow to make everything pretty, but not enough to be a pain.

ugh. It’s 11:39am. A good hour and a half past my normal bedtime, and I am WIDE awake. I have to get up in 5 hours and 20 minutes and I NEED TO GO TO SLEEP.

The only thing I have to fear is…tofu.

There is a little switch in my brain labeled “motivation”. For whatever reason, I’ve never been able to consciously turn it on.

In 2005, I really let myself go, health-wise. I started out strong, with a good workout schedule intended to help me look as good as possible in a bridesmaids dress. After the wedding, though, it was all downhill. I told myself that I deserved a break. That was in April. It’s been a long break. In the last couple months, I’ve started to see and feel some not-so-good changes. The jeans that used to be too big are hard to button. Even my underwear are tighter, for Pete’s sake! Even though I’ve been disgusted with myself, and although I kept saying “I really need to do something”, I just haven’t found the motivation to get myself going.

This isn’t a new problem for me. I spent MANY years VERY overweight. I spent years saying “I really need to do something.” Then one day – BAM! The motivation switch was turned on, and by God, I actually DID do something. In the past year, while I’ve half-heartedly tried to stick to a healthy eating and sensible exercise plan, I’ve been waiting for the BAM again. You can go ahead and say “Well that’s stupid – just get off your lazy ass and DO IT.” Yes, that does sound reasonable, but it just doesn’t work that way for me. I need my brain to actually commit to the plan as well.

So – for whatever reason, I woke up today and think I felt a little BAM. Without really thinking too much about it (which to me means that it’s the real deal…thinking too much and rationalizing kills my motivation every time…), I went back through Marie’s archives, to a post she wrote about a group weight loss site called Pounds2Go, and signed up. Then I found an interesting 12 week program which focuses on nutrition, cardio, and weight lifting, and flexibility to use as my guideline. And finally, logged back onto FitDay, which has helped me stay focused in the past.

So, there you have it. My renewed quest for better health.
Happy Sunday.
