As I’ve mentioned before, when it comes to covered-dish gatherings, I’m a kickass paper products girl. I can bring paper products like paper products have never been brought before. I’ll pick the perfect, festive design. I’ll bring just the right amount of plates and cups. When it comes to paper products for covered-dish gatherings, I KNOW what I’m doing.
Ask me to bring something to eat, though, and it’s a different story.
Which makes it very strange that I am bringing dessert for our department holiday gathering. Not only am I in charge of dessert, I actually OFFERED to bring it. I mean, when we were talking about what everyone would contribute, I actually piped up and said, outloud, with a straight face, “I’ll bring dessert.” wtf? I chalk it up to the extreme stress I was under at the time.
That stress is gone (thanks for the congrats, by the way!), and was replaced with a much sharper and immediate stress yesterday afternoon when I realized that, Good God, I WAS IN CHARGE OF DESSERT FOR OUR DEPARTMENT GATHERING TUESDAY NIGHT!
12 hours, two cake pans, 1 stick of butter melted on my furnace register, many spots of icing on my kitchen wall, an earlier-than-usual-wake-up-time so I could make the icing, and many MANY dirty dishes later, I am in possession of two very lovely little holiday cakes.
Every person in that room had better gulp it down and smile REALLY bright and tell me how damned good it is.
Next time, paper products.
