Cactus Girl

A while ago the VIM and I went to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. As we waited for the food, I started examining the condiment rack. It was a rather large wooden cactus. Spines were fashioned out of little pieces of rope. Somewhere between folk art and just plain cartoonish. I looked up at the VIM to see him rolling his eyes at me.

“What?” I said, “I like it.”

“You like it? Would you have it on your table at home?”

“Yeah, I would. Maybe not forever, but for awhile. It makes me smile. “

Then the burritos came and the cactus was forgotten.

Last night, the VIM said, “You’re like that cactus.”
He had to remind me of the folk-arty-cartoonish cactus.
“Oh yeah, why do I remind of it? Because I’m wooden and prickly?”
“No. Because you make me smile for no good reason at all.”

Elle, I saw your comment at Michele’s about sleeping on the couch instead of putting clothes away; are you my daughter in disguise??? Your list is so much like her that I can’t believe she didn’t write that!

heh. I know, elle…the VIM’s sweetness and my swooning is a little much, eh? :) More fart haiku coming up!

Judy, maybe your daughter and I can get together for a group session on “Find a Good Night’s Sleep By Putting The Damn Clothes Away.”
